Front-End Developer Internship: Crafting the Urban Interface

About Sony:

FlavorScale is seeking a Front-End Developer Intern to lead the visual and interactive evolution of our platform. In a world of cluttered apps, we are building something that feels like the future of the city. You aren’t just "slicing designs"; you are engineering the bridge between our complex data and the user's thumb.

Most internships give you a "UI kit" and tell you to stay in the lines—we’re giving you the canvas. You will work directly with the CTO and CEO to ship a world-class interface that defines our brand as we head toward the 2026 Q3 funding round.

Who You Are

Background: Currently studying Computer Science, Web Development, Interaction Design, or a related field.

The Pixel Perfectionist: You have a physical reaction to misaligned elements. You believe that a 404 page is an opportunity for branding and that micro-interactions are what make an app feel "premium."

The Bridge: You speak both "Design" and "Code." You can look at a Figma prototype and know exactly how to translate those shadows, blurs, and transitions into performant CSS/JS.

User-Obsessed: You don't just build for the sake of code; you build for the person standing on a rainy street in Amsterdam trying to find the perfect dinner spot.

Vibe: You are creative, tech-savvy, and detail-oriented. You’re likely the person who inspects the source code of every cool website you visit.

The Opportunity

This is a work-based internship that offers a Masterclass in Product Engineering. While we cannot promise permanent positions—as our key hires depend on 2026/2027 investment cycles—this is our Frontend Talent Pipeline. Successful interns who demonstrate an "owner" mindset and an eye for world-class UI will be top-of-mind for Lead Frontend roles as we scale.

Working at FlavorScale

FlavorScale is a next-generation foodtech startup focused on revolutionizing how Gen Z discovers and connects with eateries. We solve the problem of fragmented, outdated, and inauthentic food discovery experiences that leave young food lovers scrolling endlessly yet never quite finding places that truly match their tastes and vibes.

FlavorScale’s platform is video-first and AI-powered, delivering engaging, personalized, and authentic food recommendations by harnessing behavioral data and smart algorithms. We bridge the gap between foodies and restaurants, empowering users to explore and share real experiences, and helping eateries reach the right audience with data-driven insights. Our live MVP has proven product-market fit, with strong success in Copenhagen, and we’re now preparing to scale through a larger pilot in a major Northwestern European city.

By focusing exclusively on food discovery for Gen Z and combining community, AI, and real-time data, FlavorScale is poised to transform food discovery from a fragmented chore into an engaging, authentic, and efficient experience that benefits both consumers and the food industry.

What You Will Do:

  • UI/UX Implementation: Turn high-fidelity Figma designs into responsive, lightning-fast components using modern frameworks.

  • State Management: Ensure that the user experience is fluid, handling complex data flows without the user ever seeing a "loading" spinner if you can help it.

  • Performance Optimization: Audit our front-end to ensure we are hitting "Green" on all web vitals. In the city, every millisecond of load time matters.

  • Prototyping: Rapidly build and test new interaction patterns to see how users respond to different ways of "discovering" food culture.

  • The Style Guide: Help us maintain and expand the FlavorScale Design System, ensuring our code is as modular and scalable as our vision.

About You:

  • Location: Remote-First (Netherlands residency preferred for periodic design sprints in Amsterdam).

  • Tech Stack: Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and React (or similar frameworks like Vue/Next.js). Mastery of modern CSS (Tailwind, Styled Components).

  • Status: This must be a formal internship as part of your degree.

  • Language: Fluent in English.

  • Portfolio: You have a GitHub or a portfolio site that shows you can build things that look and feel modern.
